Fallen Officer's Memory Inspires Chance To Save Lives At Blood Drive
The death of Officer Christopher Bernal left a hole in the Port Chester community. A blood drive in his honor will literally help to heal.

PORT CHESTER, NY — A tragedy that shook a seaside Westchester village has inspired a chance to lend a hand, and maybe help save a stranger's life.
A Red Cross blood drive, in the memory of Port Chester Police Officer Christopher Bernal, who was killed in an off-duty motorcycle crash in July, will take place at the Port Chester Senior Center.

The drive comes at a critical time. The Red Cross said it has put emergency measures in place because of a growing blood shortage.
"This is serious: The current emergency blood shortage means we've had to limit distributions of some of the most transfused blood types to hospitals," the agency said in a statement released on Monday. "The need is truly urgent. Blood is going to hospitals faster than donations are coming in. Patients need our help."
