Join A Film Club Without Ever Leaving The Comfort Of Home

The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library group will discuss "The Phantom of the Opera" virtually after an at home "watch party."

PORT CHESTER, NY — The Phantom of the Opera lived in the shadows for a reason, but some of us are just homebodies — that doesn't have to mean we can't be social on occasion.

If you're a cinephile who prefers your home theater systems, but would still like to connect with fellow film lovers to unpack favorite movies, the library has the perfect film club for you.

The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library announced that the library's Film Club will be meeting on October 25, at 7 p.m.

The film chosen for the virtual session via Zoom is The Phantom of the Opera (2004), directed by Joel Schumacher.

In the movie, a bitter man deformed since birth, known only as the Phantom, lives in the sewers underneath the Paris Opera House. After falling in love with the obscure chorus singer Christine, he privately tutors her while terrorizing the rest of the opera house and demanding Christine be given lead roles. Things get worse when Christine meets back up with her childhood friend Raoul and the two fall in love. The Phantom decides to kidnap her and imprison her with him in his lair, and Raoul is the only one who can stop him.
