Open Door Gets Help To Help Women Get Essential Mammograms

The grant will bolster the group's mission to provide patient-centered breast health care and case management for underserved communities.

PORT CHESTER, NY — The Open Door Family Medical Center learned it will receive a Breast Cancer Alliance grant to help women overdue for mammograms to get the essential examination.

The organization has been awarded an Education and Outreach Grant from the Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA). The grant is expected to bolster Open Door's mission to provide patient-centered breast health care and case management for underserved communities.

"We are deeply grateful to the Breast Cancer Alliance for their continued support," Karen Mandel of Open Door Family Medical Center said. "This grant directly supports the work of our Patient Advocates and Navigators, a cornerstone of our commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered care. We've been fortunate to be a recipient of this grant for many years, allowing us to continually ensure that vulnerable communities access breast cancer screenings and receive support if they are diagnosed with cancer."

The grant will support targeted outreach to women who are not up-to-date with breast cancer screening. The funds will also help Open Door to offer education and breast health navigation services from screening through diagnostic resolution for those underserved populations. These services include case management service for individuals newly diagnosed with breast cancer, supporting them throughout the treatment process, and helping them navigate the healthcare system.

"Our core mission is to improve survival rates and quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer through better prevention, early detection, treatment, and cure," Breast Cancer AllianceExecutive Director Yonni Wattenmaker said. "Grantees like Open Door play a crucial role in removing barriers to access for underserved patients."
