Port Chester FD Battles Car Fire With A Fuel Leak Near Byram River

Residents were told that non-toxic foam might appear in the Byram River today as it washes into the stormwater system from the road.

PORT CHESTER, NY — A car fire in Port Chester is causing some concerns downstream.

The Port Chester Fire Department responded to a car fire on Thursday morning, on King Street, close to the Rye Brook border. The department said that the incident ended up being an extended operation due to the fact that the fuel tank was compromised.

The Village of Port Chester said that the response required the use of fire foam due to the amount of gasoline. Residents were advised that the non-toxic foam might appear in the Byram River today as it washes into the stormwater system from the road.

PCFD was assisted by the Rye Brook Professional Firefighters Local 4041, the Purchase Fire Department and the Greenwich Fire Department.
