Port Chester Police Rescue Suicidal Man On Ledge Of Vacant Building
While officers on the ground kept the distraught man engaged and distracted, officers inside the building were able to pull him to safety.
PORT CHESTER, NY — Quick thinking and teamwork from Port Chester police officers saved a man's life.
On Wednesday, at about 2 p.m., Port Chester police were dispatched to the area of South Main Street on a report of a suspicious man standing on a ledge. The responding officers quickly realized that the man on the ledge was suicidal and threatening to jump.
Officer Pennella, with assistance from Police Officers Ochoa and Rosario, were able to maintain a dialogue with the distressed man and keep him distracted from below.

Sgt. Behar, Police Officers Manning and Fiumara forced entry into the empty building and made their way up to the floor where the man was threatening to jump. As the officers on the ground continued talking, the officers inside were able to grab the man on the ledge and physically bring him safely inside the building as he continued struggling with the officers.
He was later taken to the hospital by EMS.

The Port Chester Police Department's Mobile Crisis Response Team also responded. Officials said the team will follow up with the distraught man to make certain he gets the care he needs.
Once again, PCPD members went above and beyond in the course of their duty to help a person in distress.
"Good job by all! Great example of teamwork at work," the Port Chester Police Department said in a statement released Wednesday evening. "It is our hope that this individual gets the help they need."
