A Street Fair To Showcase Resources Available To Hispanic Community
The Port Chester Hispanic Advisory Board conceived the first-of-its-kind event to connect residents with the groups offering a hand.
PORT CHESTER, NY — The Port Chester Hispanic Advisory Board has an event that will not only offer a chance to celebrate the season, but will also showcase the services available to Westchester's Latino population.
The Port Chester Hispanic Advisory Board (HAB), in coordination with the office of County Executive George Latimer, will host the street fair on Adee Street in Port Chester on Sunday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., between N. Main Street and Abendroth Avenue (in front of the Walgreens parking lot). The event will bring together organizations from the Village of Port Chester and the county that offer essential services to Hispanic residents.
The grassroots organization was formed in early 2023 as a response to requests from the community for access to resources.

"I hear from residents all the time, and they have so many needs and questions," Village Trustee and founding member of HAB, Juliana Alzate said. "The problem isn’t necessarily a lack of resources - there are just so many, and they can be hard to find sometimes. This event is a step in the right direction in terms of linking those resources with those who need them."
That mission will get a boost from the upcoming festivities.

"If you ask just about any non-governmental or non profit organization, they will tell you how difficult and expensive it is to that getting the word out about the good work they do," HAB Board Member Linda Turturino said. "So not only is it hard for residents to find relevant information when they need it, but the service providers can use help in spreading the word as well. We hope that this event will be an annual event as a part of our overall effort to help link people with the
support and services they need. It’s like the pieces are all there, and it is our goal to put them all together."
In addition to the fair, the board is also working on other upcoming projects, including a program in which high school students can earn community service credits through volunteer opportunities, and small informal, town hall-style events to serve as an open forum for Spanish-speaking residents to share their concerns and network, and a comprehensive directory of services for Spanish-speaking residents of the Village of Port Chester and beyond.
The rain location will be the Putnam and Mellor Engine and Hose Company Firehouse, located at 46 S. Main Street.
