WNE University Students Present Research Findings at Fall 2016 Poster Session

Veronica Fernandes, a Psychology major from Port Chester is one of 12 students who participated.

From Western New England University: Veronica Fernandes, a Psychology major from Port Chester, NY (10573) , is one of 12 Western New England University students who participated in research opportunities this fall. The work encompassed the methodology of psychological research from the conception of a hypothesis to the publication of the results.

Fernandes's research poject is titled "An Individualized Approach to Teaching Parents to Teach and Maintain Delay Tolerance Skills." The purpose of this ongoing study is to evaluate the direct and indirect effects of an individualized parent training program designed to teach caregivers how to implement treatments based on the function of their children's problem behavior.

"This is my second semester as an undergraduate ABA research assistant in assessment and treatment of problem behavior at Western New England University. I have had the opportunity to learn about, observe, and participate in evidence-based practices to improve the significant behavior problems displayed by young children with ASD. My experience has inspired me to get an internship at New England Center for Children and become interested in pursuing a career in Applied Behavior Analysis."
