$140K Raised At Brookhaven Town Polar Plunge In Mount Sinai
Around 650 plungers took part to help raise money for athletes in the Special Olympics.

MOUNT SINAI, NY — The 14th annual “Polar Plunge: Freezin’ for a Reason” at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai on Saturday attracted around 650 plungers and raised $140,000 for Special Olympics New York.
Councilwoman Jane Bonner, whose team, the Frozen Eagles raised around $4,000, applauded Special Olympics New York for making the Polar Plunge a success.
"Thanks to my ‘Frozen Eagles’ teammates and all the plungers, volunteers, police, first responders, and town employees for helping the Special Olympics athletes achieve their dreams,” she said.

The Special Olympics in the Long Island Region has 4,000 athletes training and competing year-round in 22 Olympics-style sports and the athletes and their families or caregivers are never charged to take part. It costs $400 to support training and competition for one athlete for one sports season.
