3 Teens Doing 'Burnouts' Cited After Suffolk Car Meet: Police

The car meet took place Thursday night in Mount Sinai, police say.

MOUNT SINAI, NY — Three teens were cited for reckless driving after a car meet Thursday night in Mount Sinai, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place in the Cedar Beach parking lot on Harbor Beach Road at about 10:45 p.m.

In response to community complaints, Sixth Precinct officers, in conjunction with Brookhaven Town
public safety officers, responded to the scene of the car meet up, police said.

The drivers were doing "burnouts" with their vehicles and attempting to participate in a street race, police said.

When police arrived, multiple drivers fled or attempted to flee the scene in their vehicles, police said. The three drivers were stopped and issued a total of 23 summonses, police said.

A 19-year-old from Rocky Point, an 18-year-old from Coram, and a 17-year-old male driver
were issued summonses for trespass and loitering, along with multiple other vehicle and traffic
infractions, police said.

They are scheduled to appear at Brookhaven Town Court on April 17 and at the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency on April 23, police said.
