Billie's 1890 Saloon Closes After Large Fire

The fire department was able to subdue the blaze, and the bar's owners hope to reopen sometime soon.

Billie's 1890 Saloon, a bar and restaurant close to Port Jefferson Harbor, caught fire Monday evening and has subsequently closed down as a result of the damage.

Firefighters responded to the saloon, located at 304 Main St., and put out the fire. According to a post on the bar's Facebook page, had the fire department not gotten involved, the business might have been completely destroyed.

"If not for the PJFD, Billie's would have been no more," the post says. "Thank you for the prompt response! We will be back soon. Keep you posted."

Try-Spy Tours, a local travel agency, posted a picture of smoke pouring out of the building. The post suggests that the fire began in the kitchen's exhaust fan. It also remarks on how important Billie's 1890 Saloon is to the the Port Jefferson community, noting, "The establishment is as historic as Port Jefferson itself."

Patch reached out to the owners of the bar but has not received a response.
