Community Mourns Nassau Officer Vroom Felled By Coronavirus
Nassau Officer Charles Vroom was laid to rest Monday after contracting the virus in the line of duty and honored for 17 years of service.
MILLER PLACE, NY—Nassau Police Department Officer Charles "Chuck" Vroom was laid to rest Monday in Miller Place, felled in the line of duty by COVID-19. The virus is now the leading cause of police officer line-of-duty deaths in the country.
Mourners and coworkers remembered Vroom for his 17 years of service with the force with Nassau's 3rd Precinct. He also worked on the 9/11 recovery effort. Nassau County posthumously promoted him to Detective First Grade in recognition of his years of dedication.

"The #NassauCountyPD mourns the loss of P.O. Charles C. Vroom IV, who died from complications of COVID-19 sustained in the line of duty. P.O. Vroom had been with the Dept. since 2004 and worked in the 3rd Pct. Our thoughts are with his family. We will never forget his service."
Patrick Ryder, the NCPD Commissioner, told News 12 that Vroom was on the front lines of the pandemic, responding to many calls of those in need.

Officer Vroom leaves behind his 19-year-old son Sean. A fundraiser to help him pay for the funeral expenses has so far raised $25,295.
The funeral was held at the O.B. Davis Funeral Homes in Miller Place.
