Human Remains Found In Submerged Vehicle On Long Island: Police
BREAKING: Divers found a human bone in a submerged car after sonar devices picked up the vehicle near a boat ramp, police say.
MOUNT SINAI, NY — Human remains were discovered in a submerged vehicle in Mt. Sinai, prompting an investigation by Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives, the department announced Tuesday.
Representatives from two volunteer organizations, Explorers with a Mission, and Adventures with
Purpose, were using side-scan sonar devices near the Cedar Beach boat ramp when they found a Chrysler PT Cruiser submerged in the water around 5 p.m. Monday, police said.
Divers entered the water and found what they believed to be a human bone in the vehicle, brought it to the surface and called 911 at 7:43 p.m., police said.

Marine Bureau divers conducted an initial search of the cruiser before suspending the search at
approximately 9 p.m. because of water conditions, police said. The search resumed Tuesday, and Marine Bureau divers found additional human remains, police said.
The car was removed from the water using a crane from Murphy’s Marine Services in Port Jefferson.

Personnel from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner will determine the identity of the remains and a cause of death, the department wrote.
