The free tournament is open to all youth league bowlers who have competed in a league during the 2022-2023 bowling season at either Coram Country Lanes, Maple Lanes RVC in Rockville Centre or Jib Lanes in Flushing. The three bowling centers are owned by Maple Family Centers, which hosts the annual tournament to help further the education of its junior bowlers. This year, the tournament will pass the $100,000 mark in total scholarships awarded since its inception.
“We at Maple Family Centers are thrilled to sponsor this free tournament to give back to our junior bowlers, who are vital members of each of our bowling center communities throughout the year,” said Joe LaSpina, Vice President of Maple Family Centers. “At the same time, we are proud to honor the memory of my grandfather, Peter LaSpina, Sr., who founded Maple Family Centers in 1960. We started this event 37 years ago to pay tribute to my grandfather, who was committed to excellence both on and off the lanes and to whom education was very important.”

Bowlers will compete in four divisions for 12 scholarships totaling $3,000. These include $400 for first place, $250 for second place and $100 for third place in each of the four divisions.
To qualify for the tournament, bowlers must have played 75 percent of their league’s games as of March 1. They will compete in Division 1 (ages 10 and under), Division II (ages 11 to 14), Division III (ages 15 to 21) and Open/Scratch (all ages). More than 120 top qualifiers will advance to the finals, where they will each play three games. Players who make the finals in both their age group and the Open/Scratch division can only win one scholarship.
“We are all looking forward to the tournament finals, which is one of the most exciting days of the year at our bowling centers,” said LaSpina.
