LI Teen Killed In Crash 'Had So Much Life, Love In Him': Grieving Dad

"Planning his funeral and not on his college education is something I wish no parent has to ever go through." — Teen's heartbroken father.

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, NY — A broken-hearted family is mourning a teen killed in a Port Jefferson Station crash Saturday night.

Isaac Ruiz, 16, was killed and five were injured in the crash, police said.

Isaac's uncle Jonathan Ruiz organized a GoFundMe page, "Isaac’s Funeral Expenses," to help his family in the face of the unthinkable.

"I’m asking everyone to please help me and my family during this difficult time," he said. "Our beloved Isaac passed away suddenly, and we are asking for your help to give him a beautiful funeral that he deserves. Isaac was a boy that had many dreams and aspirations, and he will be missed by many."

Isaac's father Abner Ruiz also wrote a message on the page: "On behalf of the Ruiz and Morales family, we want to say thank you to our family, friends and community for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time," he said. "My boy was always a happy, goofy macho with so much life, so much love in him. Planning his funeral and not on his college education is something I wish no parent has to ever go through. Please continue to pray for our family, especially our children who miss their big bro, Raquel, Sophie, Jordi and baby Jio."

The crash took place at 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Nesconset Highway and Woodhull Avenue, Suffolk County Police said.

Christopher Ospina, 18, of Islandia, was driving a 2019 Honda Accord eastbound on Nesconset Highway when he attempted to make a left turn onto Woodhull Avenue and was struck in the intersection by a westbound 2022 Ford Bronco, police said.

Isaac, a backseat passenger in the Honda, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Ford, Taner Ustaoglu, 19, of Miller Place, along with Ospina, plus three other passengers in the Honda, ages 16, 15, and 17, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

No charges were filed in the crash, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
