Long Island Police Officer Charged With Felony Child Sex Abuse: Attorney

RIVERSIDE, NY — A Suffolk County police officer has been charged with felony child sex abuse, his attorney confirmed on Tuesday.
A four-count indictment unsealed on Monday charges Sean Mahony, 45, of Port Jefferson with child sex abuse, a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, in connection with allegations he abused a minor on multiple incidents, according to defense attorney Anthony La Pinta of Hauppauge.
The abuse was reported by the child's mother, La Pinta confirmed.

Mahony was suspended by the department on Dec. 9, Suffolk police said.
The department's press office referred inquiries to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

Mahony pleaded not guilty to the charges, and a temporary order of protection was issued and he was released without bail at his arraignment, online court records show.
La Pinta called the allegations "as bizarre as they are unimaginable."
"Sean has proudly served as a Suffolk County police officer for the past 22 years and steadfastly denies these horrible allegations," he added.
