Neighbors Detain Man Who Burglarized Port Jeff Home: Police
The burglar placed several stolen items in a wooded area behind the house and called a taxi to pick him up, police say.
PORT JEFFERSON, NY – A man burglarized a Port Jefferson home Sunday evening, but his getaway was foiled by neighbors who watched the crime unfold, police said.
According to Suffolk Police, 33-year-old Frank Beinlich broke into a home located on Gladysz Way at about 5:05 p.m. and stole a safe, jewelry, small electronic equipment and clothing. No one was home at the time.
Beinlich placed several of the stolen items in a wooded area behind the house and called a taxi to pick him up, police said. When the taxi arrived, neighbors saw Beinlich carrying the safe to the waiting taxi, police said.

The neighbors called 911 and then detained Beinlich until Sixth Precinct officers arrived. Beinlich, who is homeless, was charged with second degree burglary and an outstanding parole warrant.
