- Pedestrian fatally struck by drunk driver in Coram: Police say a pedestrian was fatally struck in Coram by an alleged drunk driver. According to police, Jason Hank was driving northbound on Route 112, approximately 1,000 feet south of Pine Road, when the vehicle struck an adult male pedestrian in the roadway. The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. The victim, who has not yet been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene. (News 12 Bronx)
- Port Jeff School District: Five Earl L. Vandermeulen High School seniors have been named commended students in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. David Lawler, Hugo Onghai, Stefano Rabeno, Blake Roberts and William Wu have each been recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated on their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. They each received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program. (Press Release Desk)
- A spooky cleanup planned for Lakeview Cemetery ahead of Halloween: The Patchogue nonprofits are hosting a Halloween-themed cleanup for the historic cemetery located on West Main Street in Patchogue this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Volunteers will spend the morning collecting trash and trick-or-treating around the cemetery. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in a Halloween costume. (Greater Long Island)
- Nearby News: 'We were all just stuck': Long Islanders arrived at MacArthur Airport via bus after Southwest canceled their flights. The travelers said they decided to pay thousands of dollars for a bus after a 36-hour headache dealing with the airline. “We were all just stuck,” one of the travelers said. “We didn’t know what to do, but we came through like New Yorkers.” They said they were in Baltimore when Southwest kept saying there would be a half-hour delay before it canceled the flight completely after midnight. The cancellation comes as Southwest had been forced to cancel nearly 2,400 flights in just over three days. (News 12 Bronx)
