Port Jefferson, Comsewogue Districts Recognized for Music Education

Named among the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation's "Best Communities for Music Education" in America.

Port Jefferson and Comsewogue are among 307 school districts from across the country to be designated as a winner in the "Best Communities for Music Education" program sponsored by the NAMM Foundation.

“What makes receiving this national recognition so rewarding is that through the
combined efforts of our students, parents, music teachers and school administration, this award is shared by the entire Port Jefferson community,” said Michael Caravello, the Port Jefferson School District's director of music and fine arts. “Together we can count ourselves among the best in the country due to our strong commitment to our children's music education.”

Nearly 2,000 schools and school districts participated in the 2013 survey process. School districts are required to detail funding, staffing and other topics in the survey process.

"There is overwhelming research tying music education to higher overall student success in school and in life,” said NAMM Foundation Executive Director Mary Luehrsen. “This designation recognizes communities for their commitment to music education and strengthens support for these programs."
