Here are the top stories in Port Jefferson today:

  1. Bengt Hokanson and Trefny Dix live in a part of the Hamptons that might more properly be called the Un-Hamptons. That's the perfect place to create their glass blow art pieces. There are not a lot of glass blowers on Long Island, but certainly more and more artists are working with glass. Glass blowing is a complicated and expensive craft which is exceedingly difficult to get right, and effortlessly easy to get wrong. Along with a handful of other glass blowers out there, Hokanson and Dix accomplished the former. Their masterpieces have been displayed in many art exhibits in Long Island and other states. Click on the link to see more of their work and exhibit locations. (Newsday)
  2. Ready to have a Dickens of a good time again strolling the Port Jefferson harbor front? The Charles Dickens Festival returns on Dec. 4 and 5, with 129 events including magic, train and craft shows and a ghostly puppet parade saluting the life and works of the celebrated Victorian author. With downtown parking expected to be scarce, a free jitney will be running in a loop service all day making stops at the Port Jefferson Long Island Railroad station and downtown. Festival goers are encouraged to wear masks at indoor activities. Here is the link with five activities to satisfy your great Dickens Fest expectations. (Newsday)
  3. An Amazon Fresh Grocery store is expected to soon fill the vacancy Waldbaum’s left behind in Setauket’s Suffolk Plaza six years ago. An application filed by Amazon Retail LLC with the New York State Liquor Authority to sell beer and wine in a grocery store confirms the Amazon Fresh location at Suffolk Plaza on Nesconset Highway. (Greater Long Island)
  4. The Hype Long Island, a streetwear and sneaker shop, recently opened in Coram to deck out locals in clothing formerly not found this far east on Long Island. When they were kids, the store owners used to buy, sell, and trade sneakers but had to travel to New York City to find the styles of kicks and clothes they really liked. DayShawn Andrews, Yardley Bonhumme, Kristoff Galloway and Eric Lee used their own savings to build and open their store, which had a successful first day on its grand opening the day after Halloween this year.
