- The Heritage Park Carnival kicks off on Sept. 30. For those looking forward to celebrating the new season, the Fall into Fun community outdoor fun goes until Oct. 2. at 633 Mount Sinai Coram Road. (TBR News Media)
- The LIRR trains will have its own police. The decision was made due to increased crime at stations raising concerns among riders and staff. Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Commissioner John Mueller presented the new train patrol unit at an MTA Board meeting. (Patch)
- The Cedar Hill Cemetery exhibit is still sizzling at the Port Jefferson Village Center. The collection displays the history of the site in photographs that tells the "sanctuary of our past." (Port Jefferson Village Center)
- Port Jefferson Free Library is hosting the next "Knitting Workshop" on Oct. 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants will learn basic techniques of the art of knitting while socializing.
