Here are the top stories in Port Jefferson today:

  1. A brand new airline is coming to MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma. The airline is called “Breeze Airways” and JetBlue founder David Neeleman is behind it. The airline and the airport are set to make the announcement today. It is not clear exactly where the flights will be headed and when they will begin. (News12)
  2. Edna Louise Spear Elementary School fifth graders wowed the audience on an outstanding Winter Concert performance on Dec. 2. District Director of Music and Fine Arts Dr. Michael Caravello welcomed everyone back to the high school auditorium for the historic evening of music. Leading the special way to get into the holiday spirit were eager students and orchestra teacher Christian Neubert, band teacher Mark Abbonizio and select-choir and chorus teacher Christine Tamer.   3. The Port Jefferson Historical Society 2022 Calendars are now available at the Port Jefferson Free Library and by mail using the information from the flyer on the link.   4. Police in Suffolk County are investigating after one man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting on Sunday morning. It happened around 3 a.m. in the parking lot of Tiffany Plaza on Portion Road in Farmingville. Jorge Mauricio Sevilla-Barrara, 28, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two other men were taken in private vehicles to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. (WABC-TV)
  5. Earl L. Vandermeulen High School students in Kelly Spencer’s English class welcomed Maja Beyer, human resources manager for Jefferson’s Ferry in South Setauket. Ms. Beyer discussed employment in the areas of hospitality, recreational therapy, food service, and security and health care. The presentation was an opportunity for students to discover their interests and talents and is part of a monthly program in which guest speakers from various businesses visit to inform students about career options available after high school.   • Suffolk County Police detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Selden. Anthony Lepore was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado northbound on College Road and made a left turn onto Middle Country Road when the vehicle struck Linda Evangelista who was crossing Middle County Road in the crosswalk.   • Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a Hauppauge hotel employee who died after falling from a window at the hotel last night. David Lerner, an employee of the Hyatt Regency Long Island, was at work when he fell from an upper floor window to the ground at approximately 7:30 p.m. (smithtownmatters.com)
