Port Jefferson Man Arrested for Jewelry Theft
Hermida, 47, charged with taking $100,000 worth from Merrick home between July and October.

Joseph Hermida, 47, of 30 Piedmont Drive, Port Jefferson, was arrested on Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. for burglaries at a Merrick home, the Seventh Squad reported.
According to detectives, a 75-year-old man noticed jewelry was missing from his Frankel Boulevard residence. A camera system revealed that Hermida removed jewelry in excess of $100,000 between July 20 and Oct. 15. A subsequent investigation led detectives to the defendant’s place of employment, and he was brought to the Seventh Precinct where he was placed into police custody without incident. There were no injuries reported.
Hermida is charged with third degree burglary and second degree grand larceny. He was to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 24.
