Here are the top three stories in Port Jefferson today:

  1. Port Jefferson High School's turf field projects aim to increase enrollment. The Board of Education voted on the new athletic facility that will cost $1.9 million at a December meeting. As registration has been going down across Long Island, the board decided that investing in sports may attract students back to school. (Newsday/Subscription Required)
  2. Port Jefferson Brightview senior living had its grand opening on Thursday. The complex is located at Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station, featuring 94 independent living apartments, 50 assistant living and 26 units for residents diagnosticated with Alzheimer's disease. That is the second Brightview facility that has opened on Long Island. (Long Island Business News)
  3. Port Jefferson village is close to owning a historical site in the neighborhood. According to Mayor Margot Garant, the historic house at 49 Sheep Pasture Road will be purchased by the town and become the new Port Jefferson Historical Society building. (TBR News Media)
