Here are the top five stories in Port Jefferson today:
- According to a poll released by Siena College, Democrat Kathy Hochul is ahead of Republican Lee Zeldin by 54-37 votes. The College's data show Hochul had a growth of three points since the last poll in August. (Long Island News 12)
- The North Shore Mixer is a social event that connects the public with members of the Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, community leaders and others. This year the Social Mixer will be hosted at Port Jefferson Curry Club At Saghar on Main Street on Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. Free admission. (Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce)
- Police made an arrest at a massage parlor in Setauket. Xiahong Zhao from Flushing was detained for unlawful practice of a profession at Yi Spa at 175 Route 25A on Wednesday night. (Smithtown Matters)
- Port Jefferson School District continues to promote social-emotion awareness. Suffolk County assistant district attorneys Emma Pearce and Jennifer Wickers visited the Earl L. Vandermeulen High School to discuss the legal aspects of fentanyl usage and overdose. Students had an opportunity to share stories about people they know that use the drug or have overdosed.
