Here are the top stories in Port Jefferson today:

  1. Port Jefferson Resident Self Portal : The Village of Port Jeff is proud to announce a new service for all residents. The Self Portal is a web portal that allows residents to submit requests, such as road issues, violations, complaints, permits and etc. online. Once a request is submitted a case number is assigned to the request so it can be tracked by the person who submitted it. Just as a reminder: For fire, medical, police and other life threading situation, do not use this portal, just 911. (Port Jefferson Village)
  2. Port Jeff school District: Edna Louise Spear Elementary School kindergarten students are creating line sculptures. They are learning about different types of lines, including horizontal, vertical, zig-zag and spiral, and how to make their artwork 3D. “It’s a fun way for them to explore the element of line, and expand their art vocabulary as well as learn the basics of creating in the art room,” art teacher Meghan McCarthy said. Students are proudly showing their creations and it's always so rewarding to see how the little ones are using their imagination to learn and make their family and community proud! (Port Jefferson School District)
  3. Nearby News: 'It's just not enough': Blood banks feeling pinch from drop in drives. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to fewer blood drives this year, leaving blood banks across Long Island feeling the pinch for donations. Blood donations have waned from the 200 drives the New York Blood Center normally sees each month on Long Island to about 130. Across the state, monthly drives have dropped from 550 to about 350. Additionally, thousands of businesses — many with employees still working from home — aren’t collecting blood. The New York center declared an emergency in August when donations dwindled to a one-day supply for some types of blood. The numbers picked back up, but now, with the emergency lifted, supplies are falling again, the blood center said. (Newsday)
