Suffolk Health Officials Warns Of Using Port Jefferson Harbor
It comes after a state DEC report of a discharge of partially-treated sewage, the county says.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — An advisory has been issued for residents and visitors to take precautions before recreating in Port Jefferson Harbor after a recent state Department of Environmental Conservation report of a discharge of partially-treated sewage from an electrical malfunction on a UV disinfection unit, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services said Monday.
Officials advise those engaged in recreational activities in the area to avoid contact with waters from Port Jefferson Harbor Complex until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the agency.
While corrective actions to mitigate the discharge have been completed, the discharge reached surface waters, so there is potential for elevated levels of pathogenic organisms to be present in this area, the agency said.
