Advisory Against Bathing Issued For Port Washington Beach
Due to Tuesday's heavy rainfall, Nassau County has issued an advisory against bathing at four beaches, including one in Port Washington.
PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Tuesday's heavy rainfall has prompted Nassau County health officials to issue an advisory against bathing at four beaches, including one in Port Washington. The advisory will be lifted at 7 a.m. on Thursday.
In an email, the county's health department said the "advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall."
Officials say stormwater runoff can elevate bacteria levels in the water — making it potentially unsafe to bathe in. Some common bacteria include E. coli and fecal coliform.

The following beaches are under an advisory against bathing on Wednesday:
- Morgan Sound – Glen Cove
- North Hempstead Beach Park – Port Washington
- Sea Cliff Village Beach – Sea Cliff
- Tappen Beach – Glenwood Landing
In addition, Massapequa's Philip Healey Beach and Biltmore Beach Club, and Hewlett Point Beach in East Rockaway remain closed due to elevated bacterial levels.
