Asian-American Festival Returns To North Hempstead On May 14

The Town's Asian-American Festival will have live performances from around the world, food from local restaurants, and cultural activities.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Town of North Hempstead's Asian-American Festival is returning in person this May for the first time since the pandemic began.

This year's festival will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 12 p.m. at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington.

"The Town's Asian-American Festival will be making a triumphant return for in-person festivities this year for the first time since the pandemic began," said Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena. "I invite our residents to come together for a special afternoon where we can all experience the diversity of our Town firsthand through excellent cultural performances, top-notch Asian cuisines, and a celebration of Asian culture and heritage."

Since the first Asian-American Festival in 2010, local communities have celebrated Asian cultures represented in North Hempstead yearly during Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. The celebration includes live performances from around the world, cultural activities, and food from local restaurants. This year, there will be a lively market and food representing the countries of Afghanistan, China, India, Japan, Pakistan, Philippines, Korea, and more.

"The Town of North Hempstead is so fortunate to have such a vibrant and engaged Asian American and Pacific American community," said Councilmember Mariann Dalimonte. "North Hempstead's cultural landscape continues to grow each and every year, and our Asian American Festival is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the diversity that makes North Hempstead one of the best places to live in America."

The event is free to attend. There is a $10 parking fee per vehicle if paying with cash and a $7 parking fee if paying with credit or debit card. The rain date for the event is Sunday, May 15.
