LI Man Charged With 2 DWI Crashes In 1 Day: Police

ROSLYN, NY — A man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after two crashes in one morning on the Long Island Expressway Sunday, police said.

According to Nassau County police, one crash took place at 6:40 a.m.near Exit 37 on the westbound side of the highway when Jorge Arias Reyes, 49, of Hempstead, crashed his 2009 Honda with a 2014 Toyota.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, police said.

An investigation determined that Reyes was intoxicated, authorities said.

He was placed under arrest without incident, police said. Both Reyes and the other driver, a51-year-old man, were brought to an area hospital with serious injuries and are listed in stable condition, police said.

Further investigation revealed that Reyes was also involved in a car crash in the vicinity of Exit 41 eastbound with a 2013 Nissan heading east, police said. The 31-year-old male driver was not hurt, police said.

Reyes was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree assault, second-degree vehicular assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

He will be arraigned when medically practical, police said.
