Girl Scouts to Hold Food Drive

Annual event runs Dec. 7 in Port Washington.

The Port Washington Association Girl Scouts will hold their annual food drive to stock the local food pantries at St. Peter's of Alcantara and Our Lady of Fatima.

These food pantries support the entire Port Washington community and the 25 religious organizations in town. The pantries have had in increase in regular clients since Hurricane Sandy when it became apparent that there are many more families in need in Port Washington than initially known.

The Girl Scouts will be at King Kullen and Shop&Stop on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. They will be distributing orange shopping bags which the food pantries have established as a symbol for helping your neighbor. Each orange bag will have an attached list of requested items which include canned fruit, tuna, cereal, oil, Mac and cheese, and small bags of rice, soup and dried beans.

Several Girl Scout troops will also be conducting their own food drives with items collected from neighbors and their own family pantries.
