Goodbye 2020: Fireworks To Light Up Night For Port Washington

A fireworks display will be hosted at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington Saturday.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A free New Year’s fireworks show — billed as an “extravaganza” by organizers — will be held in the south lot of North Hempstead Beach Park on Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The fireworks display, which is restricted to Town of North Hempstead residents only, will be produced by Santore and synced to music that will be broadcast through dashboard radio. Gates to the park, which can accommodate up to 800 cars under COVID-19 social-distancing guidelines, will open an hour before show time as to allow for attendees to park their cars, according to organizers the Town of North Hempstead. The event does not require pre-registration, though the town noted cars will be admitted on a first come, first serve basis.

Town officials will be enforcing social distancing guidelines at all times with a requirement that attendees remain in their car, and if they leave to use the restrooms, masks are required. Food and refreshments will not be available for purchase, but residents are encouraged to bring their own snacks. The town is encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable/canned foods to the events as part of North Hempstead's food donation drive.
