LI Tai Chi School Represents Team USA At Pan-American Wushu Tournament

The Town of North Hempstead recently recognized students of Sitan Tai Chi for their success. They brought home a total of 132 medals.

MANHASSET, NY — Sitan Tai Chi, a Long Island-based Tai Chi school, recently represented Team USA at the 13th Pan-American Wushu Championship in Brazil.

There were 16 countries with over 300 athletes participating in the tournament. Over the course of the three-day competition, Team USA brought home a total of 132 medals — 53 gold, 47 silver, and 32 bronze.

The Sitan Tai Chi students who participated in the competition were recognized by Town of North Hempstead officials on Aug. 11. They are Alan Huang, Ethan Yip, and Katie Yan.

Wushu, which is also referred to as kung-fu, is an umbrella term for martial arts practices that were founded and developed in China. Today, the sport is split into two main categories: Taoli (a.k.a. routines competition) and Sanda (a.k.a. free-fighting competition).
