New Port Wellness Space Commune 'Platform' For Independent Instructors
Commune, a new space for wellness practitioners to teach classes, will have a grand opening next week in Port Washington.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A new wellness space in Port Washington that allows independent instructors to rent space for classes and events will have an official welcome from the Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 3. Commune, at 307 Main St., is the brainchild of Port Washington resident Cari Gatto Huszar.
Huszar told Patch that she first got the idea for Commune during the pandemic when she heard from yoga teachers and other wellness practitioners that they didn't want to return to teaching at their previous gyms and preferred working on their own.
"It's a platform to allow people to run their own business the way they want to," she said.

"Covid made people realize they didn't want to work the way they were working before—it opened up their mind to alternatives."
Huszar runs her own consulting business and eventually wants Commune to become a registered nonprofit. Commune is designed to be turn-key, allowing yoga, Pilates, Reiki and other teachers to schedule, run and hold their own classes in the space.

Open since Sept. 19, Commune already has 14 weekly classes on the schedule and continued interest from new instructors, Huszar says.
"The intention really is to bring wellness to the community and accessibility," she said.
The grand opening of Commune will be held Nov. 3 at noon.
