NorthShoreAlert Issues Blizzard Update
Port Washington-Manhasset Office of Emergency Management provides the latest on the storm.

The Port Washington-Manhasset Office of Emergency Management’s NorthShoreAlert issued a blizzard update:
Updated storm forecast and info for PW-Manhasset as of 12:30 pm January 26th:
We are only projected to have about 2.5” on the ground through dinner time -And about a total of 22.5” by 7pm tomorrow (Tues night).

Around 9pm tonight, the strong storm begins with heavy accumulations and strong winds. -It will peak around 11pm, then taper down just a touch. Then early afternoon tomorrow, Tues, gusts are expected to hit 66mph. -This period, after all the heavy snows, is the greatest risk of power failures.
Next, the police have asked that residents stay off the roads during the storm as driving is expected to be treacherous, if not unpassable.

Note, the speed and ability of first responders to respond to a vehicular or household emergency during the storm may be substantially delayed or limited.
Next, at some point we expect the LIRR, and possibly the LIE, to be shut down. But we don’t have any timing info on this, but dont expect it to be until closer to the period of heavy snows. Next, for residents who live in areas where cars may be parked on roadways, please try to remove them from public roadways to ease plowing.

Next, a shelter will be open at the New Hyde Park High School, 500 Leonard Blvd, New Hyde Park beginning at 5pm today in case someone needs a warm place to stay.
