Port Washington Branch Resumes Trains After Facing Extreme Flooding
Train service on the branch was halted throughout the night until the tracks could be cleared.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A limited service was restored this morning on the Port Washington branch of the Long Island Rail Road as repairs remained. The tracks in Bayside were flooded almost immediately from Thursday's afternoon powerful storm leading to a branch-wide suspension. It took MTA officials throughout the night to get the tracks cleared for the morning rush.
A train with at least 100 passengers was stuck for more than an hour near the Bayside station before rescuers removed everyone to safety.
By 9:30 a.m., all trains on the Port Washington branch were "on or close."
