Port Washington Children’s Center Celebrates a Joyful First Day of School
Students Brim with Excitement as They Kick off the New School Year
The Port Washington Children’s Center (PWCC) opened its doors to the bright smiles and eager footsteps in September, as its youngest learners marked the joyful beginning of a new school year. The halls were filled with laughter and excitement as children reconnected with friends, met new teachers, and began their journeys in PWCC’s warm and nurturing environment.
Teachers had been busy in the days leading up to the opening, transforming their classrooms into spaces that feel like home. Each room was carefully curated to be welcoming and immersive, filled with hands-on stations that sparked imagination and promoted early learning through play. From colorful sensory tables to letter and number activities, every element of the classroom was designed to support children's natural curiosity and developmental milestones.
“The joy on the children’s faces as they walked into their new classrooms said it all,” said Christine Paige, executive director of the Children’s Center. “Our goal is to create an environment where children feel safe, supported, and inspired every single day. The first day of the school year was a beautiful reflection of that mission.”

Adding to the excitement was a brand-new butterfly mural, lovingly painted by the teaching staff during transition day. The mural, vibrant and full of life, now graces the entrance as a symbol of growth and the journey ahead. It served as a stunning backdrop for first-day photos and a visual reminder of the love and creativity that fills every corner of the center.
“On my recent visit to the Port Washington Children's Center, I had the opportunity to stroll down the halls and into classrooms,” said the Center’s former executive director, Donna Preminger. “Seeing the toddlers’ bright smiles as they engaged with their loving teachers, preschoolers having their curiosity encouraged and KidsPort children happily playing with friends under the guidance of a warm professional staff, truly warmed my heart.”

“It was a pleasure to meet Christine Paige,” Ms. Preminger added. “Her knowledge and experience in both early and elementary education is a great asset to the Center. Six years have gone by since I retired. I miss the children, families and the Port community. Knowing that this wonderful organization is in great hands brings a smile to my face. I encourage everyone to visit!”
PWCC’s commitment to providing a developmentally rich, inclusive, and joyful early childhood experience continues to shine as a cornerstone of the Port Washington community. As fall continues, families and educators alike look forward to the many moments of discovery, learning, and laughter that lie ahead.
