Port Washington Police Invite Local Students to Experience Life as a Police Officer for a Day
30 Spots Available for Port Washington Students to Join Youth Police Academy Event

The Port Washington Police District (PWPD) is thrilled to announce the return of its Youth Police Academy, an exciting one-day program designed to give local high school students an inside look at law enforcement. The free event, open to students in grades 9 through 12, will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nassau County Police Academy, located at 1 Law Enforcement Way, Garden City. This immersive experience offers a rare opportunity for 30 local teens interested in public service to see what it takes to serve and protect their community while also providing participants with direct interactions with officers in a positive environment allowing for youth and local police to build trust and cooperation.
“Our Youth Police Academy is about building connections, understanding, and respect,” said PWPD Chief Robert Del Muro. “We want students to see firsthand what it means to be a modern police officer—the training, the teamwork, and the dedication it requires. This program gives young people a chance to engage directly with our officers, ask questions, and discover whether law enforcement might be a future calling for them.”
Throughout the day, participants will take part in a variety of hands-on experiences that mirror real police training. Students will learn about specialized units including Aviation, Mounted, and K-9, as well as participate in physical training, defensive tactics, and an obstacle course. Beyond the physical aspects, the program also emphasizes critical life skills such as leadership, ethics, teamwork, and effective communication. Each participant will receive an official Police Academy Certificate upon completion of the program.
