Port Washington School Locked Down For Nearby 'Criminal Activity'
BREAKING: Nassau County and Port Washington police units were sent to the area for "criminal activity."
PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A Port Washington elementary school was briefly locked down Monday afternoon for what police described as "criminal activity" in the area. Nassau County and Port Washington police units were sent to the area near South Salem Elementary School on Newbury Road around 2:20 p.m., Port Washington police told Patch.
The school was locked down for about 40 minutes. No one was hurt and the situation was resolved, police said.
Michael Hynes, the district superintendent, confirmed to Patch that police asked that the school be placed on lockdown. Nassau County police said an investigation was ongoing and that the criminal activity wasn't at the school.
