Port Washington Wins 1st LI Basketball Championship Since 1946

Schreiber High School advances to the state tournament on Thursday.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — While March Madness is upon us for college basketball, Port Washington's Schreiber High School is having its own madness.

They won the Class AAA Long Island Championship on Sunday by besting Half Hollow Hills East, 51-49.

This is the Schreiber's Vikings first Long Island title in nearly 80 years.

Junior Izaias Clemmons scored a team-high 16 points in the clinching victory.

Next up, a run at their first-ever state championship. Port Washington plays Thursday evening for a shot at Friday's final. They'll face Jamestown in the semifinals.
