Proposal For 52 Apartments At Port's Main St. Theater: Councilwoman
The proposal is to build 52 apartments and a child care center at 114 Main St., formerly a Port Washington movie theater, councilwoman says.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A proposal to develop 52 apartments and a child care center at the closed Port Washington Main Street Theater should be discussed at a community meeting, a North Hempstead council member says.
Councilwoman Mariann Dalimonte shared the details of the proposal in a recent newsletter. She said that the owner of 114 Main Street asked her for a list of community organizations for input into the project. The proposed apartment building would have 52 one and two-bedroom units, a child care center and street-level parking. The number of apartments would require a variance.
Dalimonte said she recommended a community-wide meeting to discuss the proposal. The proposed development is already drawing mixed reactions from residents online. On Facebook, some welcomed a change from the shuttered theater and others worried about "overcrowding" and parking.
