Truck Driver Killed In LIE Crash Has Been Identified

Nassau County police have identified the truck driver who died in last week's crash on the Long Island Expressway.

NORTH HILLS, NY — Authorities have identified the truck driver killed in last week's crash on the Long Island Expressway.

Nassau County police say Robert Malone, 59, of West Islip, died after the dump truck he was in got rear-ended by a tractor-trailer.

It happened at Exit 36, in the North Hills area, around 3:15 a.m. Friday.

According to police, a 2013 Mack Truck traveling eastbound along the LIE smashed into a 1996 dump truck, causing it to overturn.

Malone was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 43-year-old man operating the Mack Truck, who remained at the scene, was not injured, authorities said. No criminality is suspected.
