3-Month-Old Killed, 3 Hurt In Wrong-Way Crash In Brooklyn: Cops

BROOKLYN, NY — A 3-month-old baby was killed and three others hurt in a horrific wrong-way crash in Brooklyn on Saturday, police said.

The crash unfolded around 6:19 p.m. when a Honda Civic driving the wrong way down Gates Avenue collided with another Honda, sending the two cars hurdling toward a mother pushing the baby in the stroller and another pedestrian, according to police and reports.

The 3-month-old was rushed to Brooklyn Hospital, but could not be saved, according to police. Her mother, 33, is in serious condition, police said.

The third pedestrian, a 36-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, police said. The 49-year-old driver of the second Honda was also hurt in the crash and is in stable condition at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, police said.

The wrong-way driver Tyrik Mott, 28, was arraigned on Sunday night, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.

Mott, who lives in Crown Heights, tried to steal a car to get away after the crash, according to police.

He has so far been charged with second-degree attempted robbery, third and fourth-degree grand larceny and third degree attempted unauthorized use of a vehicle, according to the DA. More charges are expected as the investigation continues, a spokesperson said.

A rally demanding street safety improvements is planned for the intersection of the crash on Monday at 2:30 p.m. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Transportation Alternatives and Families for Safe Streets will push for the upgrades, and policy changes to prevent reckless driving, according to a press release.
