5 Things: LaunchPad Magic Show Benefit and Improvisational Bluegrass

Prospect Heights area information and events you won't want to miss.

 

1. Support LaunchPad. The non-profit community gathering space is having a magic show fundraiser tonight, which they say will feature magical performances, video art, screenings and readings. Also, there will be free home-brewed beer. 721 Franklin Ave., 8 p.m. $5-$20 sliding scale.

2. Get your bluegrass on. Head to The Way Station for Kings County Ramblers + Whiskey Spillers + Butter Brothers. The Ramblers call themselves "a scrappy group of pickers bring(ing) together bluegrass, rag time, Americana and impovisational jamming," while the Whiskey Spillers play a mix of rock and acoustic soulfolk. The Butter Brothers end the evening with Delta blues.  683 Washington Ave. bet. Prospect and St. Marks, 9 p.m. No cover.

3. Discuss dance. Head to Lucy Guerin's Untrained, BAM's latest showcase which pairs two trained dancers with two untrained movers allowing a unique conversation to take place on stage. Tonight's show will feature a discussion with the dancers. BAM, Fishman Space, 321 Ashland Place. 7:30 p.m. $20. 

4. Get the kids out of the house. Head to Dean Street for a Singalong w/Mike Messer. 755 Dean St. at Underhill, 10:30 a.m. $5.

5. Move the car. Alternate side parking rules are in effect today. The next suspension is Saturday, Dec. 8 (and the next suspension of any use is on Christmas Day).
