5 Things: New Year's Day Bird Walk, Doctor Who at Way Station, Kids Events, More

Prospect Heights-area subway, alternate side and event information you won't want to miss.

1. You need to start off the New Year with nature. Head to Prospect Park for the Early Morning Bird Walk. Although it actually starts at 10 a.m., on New Year's Day, it's fair to call that early morning. The tour is led by the Brooklyn Bird Club. Meet at the Audubon Center at the Boathouse, just inside the Lincoln Road/Ocean Ave. entrance to the park. 10 a.m. Free.

2. You need to start off the New Year with Doctor Who. Luckily, despite the holiday,  is still happening today and they're showing "The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe," according to their website. 4 p.m. , 683 Washington Ave. bet. Prospect and St. Mark's Place. 4 p.m. No cover.

3. You need to start off the New Year having fun with the kids. Although lots of places are closed today, Prospect Park's children's events are still happening, including  where kids make nature-themed crafts from 1-3 p.m. at the Audobon center and Needlecrafts, also from 1-3 p.m. at Lefferts Historic House. Both events are free. See our  for details and more options.

4. You need to start off the New Year on the train ... No problem there. There are no train changes affecting Prospect Heights stations (and barely any service changes at all) today, according to the MTA

5. You need to start off the New Year parking ticket free. Luckily you don't have to move your car to make it happen because alternate side is suspended today and Monday for New Year's Day, according to the NYCDOT.
