5 Things: Bluesy/Rootsy Jazz at Way Station and Spooky Songs at Branded
Plus a celebration of female jazz singers and a 5K for physical therapy research.

1. Get folksy. Head to Branded Saloon for singer/songwriter Pete Lanctot's "songs that "tell stories that feel like spooky dreams of a bygone America," as Branded Saloon describes them. 603 Vanderbilt at Bergen. 10:30 p.m. Free.
2. Get bluesy. If you're more in the mood for jazz, head to The Way Station for Po’ Boy Reinhart & Ukelele Ed to hear "originals and covers of jazzy, bluesy, bopping, popping, rootsy songs with a peculiar charm all their own." Show starts at 8. They're followed at 10 by Kagero, who play "upbeat, folky pop songs with world music flavors, sung by a Japanese man with a British accent." 683 Washington Ave. bet. 3. Celebrate women jazz singers. Brownstone Jazz Accoustic Sound Living Room Concerts will recognize Women's History Month tonight from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. with tributes to some of the most legendary female Jazz musicians. There will be an open mic session after the scheduled performances as well. 107 Macon St. $20.
4. Run for a cause. Hosted by New York University's Doctorate of Physical Therapy program, the third Annual NYU DPT 5k Walk/Run for Physical Therapy Research will be held in Prospect Park on Saturday at 9 a.m. Whether an experienced athlete, first timer, teenager or senior citizen, get ready to lace up your running/walking shoes for physical therapy research! Funds will benefit the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research, with a small portion contributing to the graduation ceremony for the class of 2013.
