5 Things: Pick-Up Softball, Reggae Sundays, Salsa Social, More

Prospect Heights-area information and events you won't want to miss.

1. You need to Salsa! Head to  for their salsa social, which begins with a free lesson. The socials are held the second and fourth Sundays. 807 Classon Ave. at St. Johns. 8:30 p.m.

2. You need Softball. It's supposed to be marginally cooler today (a predicted high of 92, while yesterdat was 98, so head to Mount Prospect Park for .  All are welcome at this weekly pick-up game. If you don't have a glove, they have some extras. 1:00pm–5:00pm.

3. You need Reggae. Head to  for  featuring DJ Cicso & Gabriel. 603 Vanderbilt Ave. at Bergen. 11:00pm. Free.

4. You need to get the kids out of the house. Head to (the presumably air conditioned)  for . Today, Marilyn Singer, author of over 80 books, reads from her latest titles Tallulah’s Tutu and What is Your Dog Doing? At noon, author and illustrator Brian Floca will read from Lightship and Racecar Alphabet. 143 7th Ave. at Carroll Street, 11-1 p.m., Free. Or, see our full list of kids events for the week.

5. You need to know if your train is running, and if you have to move your car. All weekend there are no Manhattan-bound trains at Eastern Parkway, Grand Army Plaza and Bergen Street, according to the MTA. As for moving your car, alternate side is not suspended again until the Feast of the Assumption on Monday, August 15, according to the NYC DOT.
