5 Things: The World's Largest Short Film Festival

Plus a literary arts festival, one-night-only exhibition and landscape painting.

1. Popsickle. The fourth installment of Brooklyn’s literary arts festival will be held today at LaunchPad (721 Franklin Ave.) from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. The festival aims to bring Brooklyn’s reading series and magazines into one “literary megareading.”

2. Give Me a Sign. Check out the one-night-only exhibition by Katrina Chamberlin, Katya Grokhovsky and Alisa Ochoa, created in conjunction with Make Music New York. The event explores human presence through performance, sculpture, painting and collage. Will be held at LaunchPad (721 Franklin Ave.). Starts at 8 p.m. $5 suggested donation.

3. Landscape Painting. Join Brooklyn Navy Yard Visiting Artist Enid Braun in drawing the working waterfront of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Refreshments will be served after the workshop. Bring color media of your choice, painting support, jar for water, sketchpad and pencil. Suggested supplies are a portable easel, hat with a brim, sunscreen, smock and drinking water. Admission is $30.

4. Swingin’. See the Brooklyn Conservatory’s Jazz Finale, in which the Mighty Teen Jazz Big Band and seven ensembles will perform their end-of-the-year concert. Kicks off at the Berkeley Carroll School (181 Lincoln Place). Starts at 4 p.m. Tickets are free.

5. Tropfest. The world’s largest short film festival, hosted by actor Liev Schreiber, will be held in Prospect Park today from 1 to about 11 p.m. Films will be screened starting at 8, followed by an awards ceremony at 10. Prema Yoga Brooklyn will put on a free yoga class – set to memorable film scores of recent years – to start the event. Tickets are free and operate on a first-come basis.
