Baker's Cancer Battle Killed Her Brooklyn Pie Shop
Meghan Daly survived her battle against cancer, she said, but ultimately Daly Pie in Prospect Heights did not.
PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A beloved local baker who beat cancer with help from her patron's fundraising says while she survived the disease, ultimately her Prospect Heights business did not.
Meghan Daly will shutter Daly Pie on Vanderbilt Avenue and Park Place Saturday, three years after she first opened the shop and two years after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, the baker told Patch.
"I just wasn't ever really able to get my feet back under me,"said Daly. "It's a great neighborhood and I couldn't have asked for better customers ... but business is hard is New York."

Daly told customers in an email this week that she'll be closing her shop almost eight years after she first began selling her homemade pies.
It was Daly's customers who helped her defeat cancer by donating more than $44,000 to a GoFundMe campaign to raise cash for her medical bills, she said.

Since sending out the alert that the shop would close, Daly said she's received an outpour of support from the neighborhood.
"I've gotten some really lovely notes," Daly said. "Everyone is saying they'll miss us so much. It's nice to know we were appreciated."
To say thank you, Daly will be serving some local favorites that wouldn't be typically served in July, such as the chocolate bourbon pecan, as well as summer classic fruit pies like cherry, peach and blueberry.
Daly Pie's last business day will be Saturday and the shop will accept pick-up orders through Thursday, July 25.
The Brooklyn baker has no immediate plans to continue the Daly Pie brand but said she hopes to move it forward in the near future.
"I do know they're loved," Daly said of her pies. "I hope people don't forget about me."
