Brooklyn Marathon Charts A New Course: Street Closures, What To Know
Thousands of racers will descend on the borough Sunday for the Brooklyn Marathon, which is expanding to a full road race for the first time.
BROOKLYN, NY — Thousands of racers will venture onto the streets of the borough this weekend for the Brooklyn Marathon's first foray into a full road race, bringing street closures and parking changes along with them.
The 2022 race — set to kick off on Sunday — will mark the Brooklyn Marathon and Half Marathon's first run at a new route that snakes along the North Brooklyn waterfront, through Crown Heights, down to Gravesend and into Prospect Park.
The new route got the go-ahead last year as the only other major marathon aside from the massive New York City Marathon to be allowed in the city.

Along with the excitement of cheering on racers, the course will bring a host of new road closures and parking changes for non-running Brooklynites.

WHEN:
The marathon and half marathon will kick off in three waves on Sunday morning. Road closures will begin at 1 a.m. and also extend in waves until 2 p.m. that afternoon.
Here's a look at the start times:
- Wave 1: All Marathoners & Half Marathoners 7:59 Pace or Faster (7:00 AM Start)
- Wave 2: Half Marathoners 8:00 - 10:59 Pace (7:20 AM Start )
- Wave 3: Half Marathoners 10:00 Pace and Above (7:40 AM Start)
WHERE:
Runners will be getting set up for the race in north Brooklyn near McCarren Park.
The course will then snake through Greenpoint, Williamsburg, DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn before heading down Flatbush Avenue to Grand Army Plaza, will runners will make a loop on Eastern Parkway. Half marathoners will then finish up in Prospect Park, while full marathon runners will make a loop down to Gravesend before also ending in Brooklyn's Backyard.

STREET CLOSURES:
Parking will shut down on all streets marked for a closure for the race starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Full road closures will then kick off at 1 a.m. on Sunday and open in waves until 2 p.m.
