Robots To Compete At Brooklyn Public Library
Brooklyn's future automaton overlords face off this Saturday.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Our future robot overlords will face off at the Brooklyn Public Library main branch this Saturday to find out which team can out-build and out-code the rest.
Hosted by the BKLYN Robotics League and NYC FIRST, the event will pit competing teams of players aged nine to 17 in a contest to build robots that can complete energy-related tasks in a theme the league is calling "Super Powered."
Some example include tasks on a solar farm, water reservoirs, homes and other examples where robots could be used to improve and consider how energy is used.

The first, second and third place teams will go on to compete in NYC FIRST's city-wide championship, with a chance to enter an international championship competition.
One library official described the event as "fun, loud, colorful and intense," which seems like a departure from a typical library-hosted event.

Since October, robotics teams have been meeting at Brooklyn Public Library branches all over the borough. The teams worked together all fall, learning how to use the LEGO EV3 Robotics and the LEGO Spike Prime platforms, according to their website.
The goal of the BKLYN Robotics League, the website states, is to "engage youth in research, problem solving, coding, and engineering," while learning team work skills and making new friends.
